So it’s that time of year again. Everyone is making big plans for the new year. Although I firmly believe that you can make a change in your life at any point in the year, there’s no time like the present! May as well jump on the bandwagon, set some goals to work toward, and get to work. But I decided to do something a little different this year. I want to make goals to not only better myself, but to strengthen my music career and to help others as well. So this is where I start:

In this new year, I resolve to…..
• Make healthier choices for what I eat and drink. (For myself)
• Create a strong, unique second album in time for a late spring release. (For my career)
• Be a strong and confident, yet loving role model to the young women of the world. (For others)

Being a busy musician, it is easy to just go grab a fast food hamburger and fries when I get hungry. This year, I want to take the time to make foods at home that are fresher and healthier. Fast friend foods do nothing but make you feel (and look) much worse. Yes, they may taste good and I know I won’t give them up all together, but I want to make a conscious effort to knock most of this out of my daily diet. I also want to switch to drinking things with less sugars and caffeine. Staying hydrated and keeping my teeth pretty are going to be the biggest incentive for this one!

We are hoping to get into the studio in early February to work on the second album. I am currently finishing/tightening up the last few songs that will be on it. I am very excited about this next project. Every song is strong and extremely catchy. The album as a whole is going to have a very unique sound that I hope to use as a launch pad for the rest of my year!

Finally, I see a lot of strong women emerging that are teaching our girls how to be powerful, independent, and successful. I am all for that! However, I also think that many of these role models may be taking it one step too far. Just because you can be independent doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have people that you can depends on and that can depend on you. Just because we can be powerful doesn’t mean that we are stronger without help. I think that one of the greatest gifts given to women is their ability to be loving and sensitive to others. I want to show young women that you can be strong and sensitive. Capable and caring. A fighter and a friend.

These are my hopes for the new year. I made these goals knowing that they are both realistic and going to take some hard work. Wish me luck!

In high hopes, I wish you a Happy New Year!

Yours,
Kate McRae
